For those of you who haven’t heard of shingles, it’s a very painful skin rash that usually appears in a small area on one side of your face or body. Though Shingles is most common in older adults, young people who have a weak immune system can get shingles. Stress, injuries, and certain medicines can cause a person to attain shingles. Shingles can occur when the virus that causes chickenpox starts up again in your body. Once you get chicken pox as a child, the virus known as shingles, is dormant in your nerve roots. For some people, it can stay dormant forever, but for some unlucky people, it “wakes up”. Although Shingles is a very painful virus that causes a person to get a rash, it’s not deadly. If you think you have the virus, see your doctor right away for treatment.
